Asha-Lata is an Institute working for education, development and rehabilitation of all categories of challenged children such as Hearing impaired, Visually impaired, Orthopedically handicapped and Intellectually Challenged along with Autism, Cerebral palsy and Multiple disability. Children mostly come from the lower strata of society.

INCEPTION

ASHA-LATA was established on 19th July 1999 as "Asha-Lata Viklang Vikas Kendra" by some retired senior Officials of SAIL, Bokaro Steel Plant. Our Ex Chairman Late B. B. Jaipuriar & present Director Shri B. S. Jayaswal, founder General Secretary are the visionaries & founders of this institute whose dedication has brought many achievements to this organization.

PRESENT STATUS

Starting with 45 children the Institute has now grown with more than 198 students. It is running since inception without any financial help either from Govt. or any other funding agencies. The financial resources are only from individual donations and donations from organizations.

It is run by an NGO managed by a group of people retired from senior executive position mostly engineer from SAIL, BOKARO STEEL PLANT. All the members are giving free services to the organization.

OBJECTIVES OF ASHA-LATA

  • icon To provide education, development and rehabilitation of all categories of challenged children.
  • icon To create awareness regarding their education and training amongst their parents & guardians and society at large.
  • icon To assist, advise, support and activate the children and their parents & guardians and society at large against disability.
  • icon To assist, advice, support and activate the children and their parents/guardians towards their legal rights. To achieve objectives to take up individual cases and cases of public interest.
  • icon To organize socio-cultural and health-care programs for these children.
  • icon To organize economic-generation programs for betterment of their life.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF ASHA-LATA

  • icon Unique feature of the organization is that it is working for all categories of disabled children. Due to their integration, it has been observed that the children empathize with each other and try to fill in for others disabilities. This has brought a strong feeling of companionship and team spirit and their co-ordination in various project has been exemplary and achievements are remarkable.
  • icon It imparts education from class I to XII which is very rare in Disability Sector.
  • icon It also monitors all its student's progress after class XII and give them support and guidance till they are properly rehabilitated in the main stream of the society.
  • icon Asha-Lata has started professional course in computer (O-Level) those disabled children who have passed class XII and could not go for higher study. This course will help for better opportunities for Govt. Job and self employment. This course is free of cost. In the first batch 16 disable children took admission and they are regularly taking classes.
  • icon Towards implementation of Disability Act 1995 which provides 3% job-opportunity to disabled persons, Asha-Lata takes pride of its implementation by appointing four teachers and one non-teaching staff from disability group which is about 17% of our strength.
  • icon Asha-Lata in line with its objective to rehabilitate the challenged children has taken initiative and arranged marriages of disabled grown up ex-students. 32 such marriages were performed out of which 28 got married with normal spouse.

INFRASTRUCTURE

It has very good infrastructural facilities provided by Bokaro Steel Plant . It has five acres of land having compound walls with 10 nos. of class rooms and three nos. of office rooms. It has two Computer centers, a Physiotherapy centre and a Helen Keller multipurpose hall having 3000 sq ft area.

FUTURE PLAN

Having such infra-structural facilities, trained-teachers, dedicated members and staff, Asha-Lata kendra has potential to grow into a premier institution of its kind in this region. The managing committee is confident enough that with its hard work and determination, it would take the Institute to great heights with positive support from the society corporate houses and the Government.

OUR PLAN IS TO ESTABLISH A UNIVERSITY FOR DISABLED STUDENT AT ASHA-LATA WITH THE HELP FROM SAIL, BOKARO STEEL PLANT AND CITIZENS OF BOKARO WITH HOSTEL FACILITY.
